Damaged Library Material Policy

Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to establish procedures for the disposal of circulating library materials that are damaged beyond repair and paid for by library users.

Identification of Damaged Materials

Damaged items exist when material is returned to the library after being damaged while checked out to the customer. Library materials returned to the library damaged so it cannot be used again will be withdrawn from the library collection. Example of damage includes books with pages stuck together, items with corners chewed, mold or mildew, wet items due to spills, pages torn out or missing, etc. Customers are charged a replacement fee for the item; damaged material belongs to the Town of Flower Mound and the borrower is responsible for Town property while it is in their possession.

Disposal of Damaged Materials

Customers who wish to keep the damaged item may do so upon receipt of the damage fee.
