Placing Holds
Placing a hold is helpful when all copies of an item are checked out or for forthcoming titles that are not yet available. When you place a hold, your name is put on a list of people waiting for an item. If the material you are looking for is currently "checked in" please allow 24 hours for Library Staff to pull and process your request. If you need material more quickly, contact the Information Desk.

When the item becomes available, library staff will contact you by phone or e-mail as you have designated. We encourage you to use e-mail notification if possible to help reduce library operating costs. If you wish to receive notifications from the Flower Mound Public Library by e-mail, please call us at 972-874-6200 or e-mail us at the Circulation Desk. Please provide your name, library card number, PIN# and current e-mail address. If your e-mail address changes please contact us and we will update your record.

Placing holds through the Library Catalog
Search the library catalog for the item you need. If all copies are currently checked out or being held, you may click on the Request First Available Copy button. This will take you to the login screen.

After logging into the library catalog with your library card number and PIN you will get a Request Confirmation screen. Click on Request button and you will see the Your Request Has Been Successfully Placed screen. You can click on the Return to Searching button or the Logout and Return button.

Library staff are happy to assist you in placing holds. You may call 972-874-6200 and choose the reference desk from the options given.

Suspending and re-activating holds
If you are going out of town, have more books than you can read or are unable to visit the Library, you may want to suspend some holds. You won’t lose your place in the list, but the item won’t be held for you until you re-activate the request.

To suspend a hold, access your Library Account and click on the holds button to see the items on hold. Place a check mark in the box next to the titles that you want to suspend. Click on Change status button. When you are ready to resume receiving holds, you must re-activate the holds to return them to active status. Place a check mark next to items you want to be active and click on Change status button.
