Internet Use Policy

The Flower Mound Public Library offers access to the Internet as part of its mission to provide services for life-long learning, culture, and recreation with equal access to information for all citizens.

The quality of information on the Internet varies greatly and must be evaluated critically by the user. The Flower Mound Public Library disclaims any warranty as to the information’s accuracy, authoritativeness, timeliness, or usefulness.

The library does not censor access to the Internet nor protect users from materials which some may find offensive or inappropriate.

All Internet resources accessible from the library are offered equally to all library users. Parents or guardians, not the library staff, are responsible for the Internet information selected or accessed by their children. Only parents may restrict their own children from visiting Internet sites, and are advised to supervise their children’s Internet sessions.

Downloaded information from the Internet may contain viruses. Flower Mound Public Library is not responsible for any virus inadvertently downloaded to disk and transferred to a personal computer.

Due to limited resources available for provision of public access to the Internet, the library may set limits on the use of Internet services. This may include time limits, number of sessions per day, and use of large files, among other limitations. These limits are outlined in the library Internet Use Procedures.

Anyone using the library’s Internet access must comply with all applicable federal, state and local laws, including laws governing the transmission and dissemination of information while accessing the Internet.

The library staff will provide basic Internet assistance. Because of the multitude of programs available over the Internet, the user is responsible for learning how to use specific programs. Books and other resources are available in the library to assist users.

As with all library materials, parents, guardians, and caregivers are responsible for their children’s use of the Internet. Parents or guardians should guide their children in use of the Internet and inform them about materials they should not use.

Computing resources may not be used for illegal purposes. Examples of unacceptable uses include:

  • Harassment or libeling;
  • Destruction of or damage to equipment, software or data belonging to the library or others;
  • Disruption or unauthorized monitoring of electronic communications;
  • Unauthorized copying of copyright-protected material
  • Attempting to modify or gain unauthorized access to files, passwords or data belonging to others;
  • Violation of software licensing agreements

Violations may result in loss of access. Unlawful activities will be dealt with in an appropriate manner.
